Patented intellectual property
Highbury’s well-rounded IP portfolio includes a tar-removal patent, two process patents pending, and 19 proprietary trade secret process/design white papers. Our built-in tar removal system eliminates 95+% of tars without the need for supplemental oxygen, eliminating what would otherwise be the single most expensive stage of the process and producing a very pure syngas.
Intellectual property includes:
- A patented tar-removal process
- A patent pending covering solids monitoring and solids flow control system for dual bed gasifier
- A patent pending application in draft review for critical aspects of the lime kiln process
- 19 proprietary/trade secret operating and process control white papers
- Freedom to operate IP legal opinion
Core gasifier technology
Highbury’s next-generation gasification process turns almost any form of biomass into extremely pure nitrogen-free, medium-BTU renewable fuel gas (RFG). Its patented tar removal system efficiently removes 95+% of tars from the syngas, normally a costly part of the process. As a result, it produces a higher purity of syngas at a lower cost than other gasification systems.
From only 200 dry tonnes per day of waste biomass, a forestry lime kiln fuelled by RFG saves 45,000 tonnes per year of CO2 – displacing 700,000 GJ of CI 54 natural gas per annum (equivalent to taking 9800 cars off the road) and significantly reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
